The captain of the Ukrainian men's biathlon team, Dmytro Pidruchnyi, said he plans to take part in the traditional Christmas race to be held in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on December 28.
It should be noted that Dmytro and Yulia Dzhima represented Ukraine in the Christmas race last year. Back then, the Ukrainian duo took fourth place in the mass start - Dmytro and Yulia were 16 seconds short of the podium.
The organizers have already officially announced six pairs of participants from France, Germany, Austria, Norway, Sweden and the Czech Republic. Frenchmen Julie Simon and Fabien Claude have won the race in Gelsenkirchen for the last two years and have a chance to become triumphant for a record third time.
The Christmas race (also known as the World Team Challenge) has been won twice in its 21-year history by Ukrainian duos. In 2008, Andriy Derizemla and Oksana Khvostenko did it, and in 2014, Serhiy Semenov and Valentyna Semerenko did it.
