Former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs commented on the upcoming second fight between WBC, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) and former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-1, 24 KOs).
“The first fight was very close, but I gave it to Usyk. I think he did his job. I think the second fight will be great. Whose side do I lean towards? I favor Usyk. This is a guy who doesn't drink, doesn't go out, he does nothing but train.”
“Fury needs to punch more to the body. It's going to be a great fight. You can never count Fury out because you don't know how he's going to fight. Fury can get into a left-handed stance and put pressure, like he did in the second and third fights with Wilder. So you never know for sure.”
On the night of May 19, Usyk inflicted Fury's first defeat in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a separate decision of the judges: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usyk and Fury signed an agreement for a second fight. The Gypsy King has officially activated the revenge option. The second fight between Oleksandr and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight. Oleksandr Usyk will be preparing for the rematch in a training camp in Valencia. Tyson Fury said he would start training six to seven weeks before the fight.
