IOC announces seven candidates for the post of head of the organization

The International Olympic Committee has officially released the final list of candidates for the position of the new head of the organization.
Seven candidates for the leadership position have been officially registered:
Prince Faisal Al-Hussein (Jordan), member of the IOC Executive Board;
Lord Sebastian Coe (Great Britain), former athlete, two-time Olympic champion, President of the World Association of Athletics;
Ms. Kirsty Coventry (Zimbabwe), former athlete, two-time Olympic champion, Chairperson of the IOC Athletes' Commission
Mr. Johan Eliasz (Sweden), President of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation;
Mr. David Lapartian (France), President of the International Union of Cyclists;
Mr. Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. (Spain), First Vice-President of the International Modern Pentathlon Federation;
Mr. Morinari Watanabe (Japan), President of the International Gymnastics Federation.
The candidates will present their programs to all IOC members at a closed-door meeting in January 2025 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The current head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, has previously announced that he will step down after his term expires. Bach has held his position since 2013.
The election of Thomas Bach's successor will take place during the IOC session in Athens, which will be held from March 18 to 21, 2025.
In July, Serhiy Bubka was re-elected to a new eight-year term as an IOC member, having served as the head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine until 2022.
