Chojinkai Karate (pronounced Cho-jin-Kai) was started by Doug James in October 1974 with the formation of its Honbu (Home) club in Carlisle.

From there it has gone from strength to strength to satisfy the demand for high quality Martial Arts tuition in Cumbria and the North of England. There are also very successful Clubs in Brampton, Cockermouth, Egremont, Haltwhistle, Hexham, Kendal, Newcastle, Workington and Whitehaven. The year 2014 saw the club proudly celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The British Karate – Do Chojinkai is the Association to which the Clubs belong, and as a Full Member of the English Karate Federation (EKF), operates a stringent Child Protection Policy.  All Instructors are First Aid Trained, have a complete up-to-date DBS (CRB) Checks and are fully qualified & trained to the Highest Standard on a regular basis.

The style of karate practised by the 400 strong membership who make up the Chojinkai Group is Wado Ryu Karate based, as taught by its Chief Instructor Sensei Doug James 8th Dan WKF.
