**** LOCATION: ****

Kaapelitehdas (Cable Factory)

Tallberginkatu 1, 00180 Helsinki, Finland.
C-staircase, 4th floor.
(Ruoholahti-district)

Google Maps: 60.161846, 24.903066

The location of this seminar is quite fascinating. As the name "Cable Factory" hints, this seminar is held in a place that was once an actual cable factory, from the 1940s to the 1980s, but has been since turned into a multi-purpose building where exhibitions, seminars, concerts etc. are frequently held.

The Cable Factory is located very close to the city center of Helsinki.

**** HOW TO GET THERE (extremely easy): ****

1 of 2 // From the airport to the city center:

By far the simplest way to get to the city center of Helsinki is to pick either bus number 615 or 620 (platform 21 of terminal 2 for both). The ticket will cost 5 euros (6 euros between 2:00 - 4:30 a.m.). These buses will take you to the Central Railway Station (Rautatientori) and the trip will last about 35 minutes if you take 615 or 45 minutes if you take 620.

However, if you prefer another means of transportation, below is a fun and very informative video guide for you to explore! Note that the video is a few years old and some info may be outdated, especially when it comes to some of the prices.

Once you arrive to the Central Railway Station, you have the possibility to purchase a day ticket from HSL Service Point (located one floor below ground level). Otherwise, you can pay for internal single tickets in cash: for an adult they cost 2,50 or 3 euros and are valid for one hour in busses, trams and metro within Helsinki City area.

2 of 2 // From the city center to the seminar location:

To travel to the seminar location (Cable Factory) from the Central Railway Station you can

A) take a metro train directly to Ruoholahti. This trip will take you only three minutes! From Ruoholahti metro station you will have to walk directly west along the Itämerenkatu-street for about 650 meters to reach the Cable Factory.

Metro map: https://www.hsl.fi/sites/default/files/uploads/metro_435.png(simple, huh?)

or

B) take bus 65A or 66A from platform " Kaivokatu (2056)" on ground level next to "Sokos" and opposite to "Forum" shopping centers just before a big intersection. The buses go by the platform every 7-13 minutes, approximately. These buses will take you a lot closer to the Cable Factory than the metro. You need to hop off on bus stop "Salmisaari (1015)", just before the bridge to Lauttasaari-district. The ride will take you 8 minutes.

Coordinates for bus stops on Google Maps:

Kaivokatu (2056): || 60.170175, 24.938945 ||
Salmisaari (1015): || 60.163529, 24.904646 ||

**** FEE: ****

Non-members: 50 euros for Saturday.
EJF-members from abroad: 50 euros for the whole seminar.

Note that meals, accommodation, etc. are not included in the seminar price.

**** MEALS: ****

Restaurant Hima & Sali at the Cable Factory offers meals for around 7 euros/meal. There are also other numerous restaurants nearby.

**** ACCOMMODATION: ****

i) It is possible to sleep at the dojo for the price of 5 euros per night. Please bring your own sleeping bag. The dojo has a tatami floor.

ii) Also, there are, of course, numerous hotels and hostels around the city. The very closest hotel would be Holiday Inn West Ruoholahti. The closest hostels on the other hand are Stadion Hostel and Eurohostel.

Some members (including the organizer) will accommodate in Vallila-district that is right next to Sörnäinen-district (check the Metro map!). In Vallila, there are two hostels in a single building: CheapSleep and Vuokrahuone. These hostels are a bit farther from the seminar location but also quite affordable and have great public transportation connections, including being located by the routes of the above-mentioned bus-lines 65A and 66A (they will take you to the Cable Factory in approximately 20 minutes) and only one kilometer from the Sörnäinen metro station. It may also be possible to arrange daily transportation by car for a limited number of people - please ask the organizer about this possibility.

For a comprehensive list of hostels and hotels, please check:http://www.hostels.com/helsinki/finland

***** GEAR: ****

Japanese-style keikogi and hakama (for those who have one). Visitors don't need to worry about the dress code too much.

Please inform the organizer if you'd like to attend but don't have appropriate weapons of your own.

Essentials: jo and bokken with a tsuba (hand guard). Kodachi with a tsuba, for those who have one.

EJF-members can naturally bring their customary arsenal of weapons.
