Matted rings and electronic score boards

This tournament is a part of the Annual Arizona Individual Championship program. Points will be awarded to medal winners; 5 points for gold, 3 points for silver, and one point for bronze. A competitor that is the lone participant in their division has the option to receive the gold and the points, or move to another division with more competitors. However, if a competitor moves to another division, they must take the results from that competition for both medal and points.

(Only Judges and Referees, in proper attire, will be able to judge and referee at this tournament.)

Weapons Kata: (Score Card System)
1. Short Weapons – Sai, Kama, Tonfa, Tekko, and Manji-sai
2. Long Weapons – Bo and Eiku
3. Traditional Japanese/Okinawan Katas only
4. NO SHARP weapons allowed
5. Competitors will compete one at a time

Kata: (NOTE: Flag System will be used)

1.Competitors will be placed in a competition tree.

2.Competitors will compete two at a time and winner determined by judges using
flag system.
3. All competitors in Beginner, Novice, Intermediate divisions will be allowed to repeat the same kata an unlimited number of times and/or different kata each round.
4. All competitors in advanced divisions (brown and black) will be allowed to repeat the same kata until the final round in which the competitor must perform a different kata.

5. Elimination System:
Single elimination brackets are used to determine the two athletes who will compete in the final match for first and second place. The repechage bracket is built by selecting all of the athletes who were eliminated by the finalists and will compete to determine third place.

Kumite:

1.) MOUTH PIECES ARE MANDATORY
2.) Women’s chest protectors must be worn beneath the GI.
3.) Competitors must provide their own gloves.
4.) Shin and foot guard (WKF type or similar)

A. Duration of bout
. 11 yrs old and Under: 1 min. 30 sec. or 8 points
. 12 yrs old and Over: 2 min. or 8 points
. Adult Black Belts 2 min. or 8 points
. Clock stops while points are awarded.
. Clock stopped only by head referee.

B. Scoring:
Kick to head-3 points
Kick to body-2 points
Take down with follow up score-3 points
All punches or strikes to either body or head-1 point

C. Criteria for decision
Competitor to score 8 points first will win match. Competitor with the most points at the end of regulation will win.

When a bout ends with equal score, or no score, the referee shall announce a tie (hikiwake) and winner to be determined by judges decision (hantei).

D. Penalties:

Category 1:
Techniques that make excessive contact
Attacks to the arm, legs, groin, joints, instep
Dangerous throwing techniques

Category 2:
Faking injury
Exits (jogai) from the competition area
Self-endangerment (mubobi)
Avoiding combat
Clinching, wrestling, pushing, seizing
Dangerous and uncontrolled attacks, whether they land or not
Goading the opponent, failing to obey the orders of the referee

Category 1 and 2 penalties are separate and do not cross-cumulate

E. Penalty evaluation:
A penalty can be directly imposed (at any level) for a rules infraction but, once given, repeats of that category of infraction must be accompanied by an increase in severity of penalty imposed.

Chukoku Warning 1st instance of a minor infraction

Keikoku 2nd instance of a minor infraction

Hansoku-Chui 3rd instance of a minor infraction

Hansoku 4th instance of a minor infraction: Disqualification of the contestant
